Assignments normally involve simultaneous or consecutive interpreting. Where a preferred format already exists, that can usually be accommodated. Where the choice is less straightforward, I can advise on the mode — or combination of modes — best suited to the nature of the discussion.

Simultaneous Interpreting (SI)

Simultaneous (conference) interpreting is generally used for conferences, parliamentary sessions, formal meetings, hearings, working discussions, and other settings where uninterrupted delivery matters. Interpretation is delivered in near‑real time while discussions continue without interruption.

This format usually requires appropriate technical arrangements, whether in person or remote, and for sustained sessions normally involves two interpreters working as a team. It also works well when several languages and interpretation teams are involved.

Consecutive Interpreting (CI)

Consecutive interpreting is well suited to bilateral meetings, negotiations, diplomatic engagements, site visits, press and media formats, and sensitive discussions.

The speaker delivers a section of speech and then pauses for the interpreter. This can be highly effective in relationship‑driven or sensitive settings, though it changes the rhythm of the meeting and is worth planning for accordingly.

The key practical consideration is time. Meetings conducted consecutively typically run at least 1.5 times longer than they would in simultaneous, depending on the length of interventions and the structure of the exchange.

Whispered Interpreting

Whispered interpreting (chuchotage) is also available where a single participant requires interpretation without a full technical set‑up.
